STRASBOURG - FRANCE
Whilst in the region, my parents and I decided to visit Strasbourg, a short 15 minute train ride from the German border. Despite not knowing a great deal about what we would find in the city (I had vague recollections of it being quite picturesque after having compiled a university report on the region of Alsace and Lorraine), we decided to go and were definately not dissapointed. Whilst not greeted by particularly friendly weather, a new language and different culture was definately a welcome change after a week or so in Germany.
Having checked into our hotel, the 3 of us wandered around the city for the remainder of the afternoon and admired the range of architectural styles in different regions. The appearance of the buildings was by far the biggest difference between Strasbourg and other cities we had visited in Germany, most probably because many of the German cities had been levelled during the allied bombings, whereas Strasbourg had not.
