TORRES - BRAZIL
Whilst not talked about in the same way as Maccu Pichu or Iguazu falls, I found Torres to be one of the most visually spectacular locations which I visited in the south of Brazil. Following a most enjoyable albeit somewhat tiring day of mountain trekking in Canela I headed back to the coast where I was greeted by this time, cold, wet and windy weather. These conditions however did not serve to ´dampen´(sorry, had to be done) my spirits and I enjoyed the few hours I spent walking along the rugged coastline to the south of the city.
What I found quite amazing about the location was the fact that limestone cliffs seemed to just appear out of nowhere, continue for a few hundred metres and then dissapear altogether. I guess this is why I am not a geologist, but form the perspective of an amateur photographer, it was quite breathtaking. I must have climbed every cliff and taken literally hundreds of photos from different angles, trying to cram as much of the scenery into each photo as I possibly could.
Resting a little, I just watched the locals go about their bussiness and the blustery conditions meant there was a strong contingent of surfers enjoying the swell, which also made for some entertaining viewing. Having explored most of what was on offer, I spent the remainder of my time chatting with a few locals in an internet cafe and organising my departure that evening. Little was I to know that I was about to embark on possibly the most crazy bus journey ever (unfortunately many of the details from this trip will not make it onto this website).
Another interesting day stop, Torres was definately one of my highlights (from a scenic point of view) during my travels in South America.
